Church In The Hills Calgary

RSS/Podcast Feed

Here is some assistance in setting up an RSS/Podcast feed.  RSS (typically referred to as “Really Simple Syndication”) feeds can be set up with your internet browser or email application to notify you whenever anything new (text, audio or video) is added to a site providing RSS capabilities.  Podcasts are a form of RSS which isolate the notices to posts of audio or video nature.

Different browsers may look/act differently than what is shown below.  If you are using Internet Explorer 6, you may not have the option to add RSS Feeds directly from it.  The intent of this page is show you the gist of how to set up RSS Feeds/Podcasts and not show every possible browser and/or email program.  If your system or application is too old, your only option may be to listen to the sermons online.

On your browser you may find one of two icons:

Clicking on these icons will either take you to a new page of available posts to subscribe to, or first give you an option of what you would like to see:

(If you don’t see those icons, your browser may not be capable but you can try using the link: http://www.cithcalgary.com/feed/podcast/.  Also note that this web page can be used to download a particular sermon to your computer for future listening, should the sermon be unavailable. )

Here are some examples of how you might subscribe and where you will see the subscription:

Through MicroSoft’s Internet Explorer 7 the page will give you an option to subscribe and then the subscription will show up in your explorer bar on the left-hand side (if you choose to show it):

ie-subscribe

In Firefox, your subscription is in the form of a “Live Bookmark”:

firefox-subscribe

The live bookmarks just mean that the items within the menu option will alter depending on what is available from the website.  As Sermons are added and removed, the list within the “Church in the Hills Calgary” folder will change.

If you are using a Mac, the Safari page will give you a set of actions on the right hand side for which you can add your subscription to the mail application or to iTunes (if you only want the audio Podcasts):

It may look like this in your iTunes (Note the picture didn’t show up for me until I added it manually … I will see if I can make it download automatically one day):

itunes-subscription

And if you choose the option to “Subscribe in Mail” it might look like this:

rss-subscription

If you do not have the option of subscribing to PodCasts using iTunes from your internet browser, you can choose the “Subscribe to Podcast” menu option from the “Advanced” menu and enter the URL (Web page address) as such:

itunes-subscribe-to-podcast

Click OK and it should show up as shown above under your Podcasts.  Note the address in the picture uses the identifier “feed:” this may only work on some browsers, use “http:” if it doesn’t work.

Enjoy receiving your RSS/Podcast feed updates.
