Note: right now these values are a work in progress with the staff to make sure we are stating something that is current and truthful – not just wishful thinking – do we live these values out – and are our decisions made through the lens of these.
CitH Values
Jesus Centered Gospel Driven
Our church exits because of Jesus’ life, death and resurrection. “Jesus died to make us new people, not just nice people” (C.S. Lewis). This good news needs to be shared. The gospel drives us together to celebrate, and encourages each other and to share it beyond our four walls.
Spiritual Growth with Passion
We desire to have Faith that has passion for what God wants for our lives. We pursue a deeper understanding of Grace and a desire to grow in our Christian Journey, not to stall, but to grow spiritually with the help of the Holy Spirit. We believe that Experiencing God is more important than entertaining people. Experiencing God also comes through a love and study of the scriptures, which is joined with the Spirit.
Serving
God’s purpose for his followers is to serve. We encourage this at CitH, not by manipulation, but by being motivated by His Love, Grace, and Mercy. We serve one another in this community of Faith – calling out the best in one another to be followers, and keep our focus on Jesus. We pursue to serve Calgary. We seek to bless this city and pray for the city to prosper. We choose to partner with ministries that are serving the marginalized, like the Salvation Army and Servant Anonymous Society.
We serve the world, through our global partnerships in mission, like Visionledd, which is tackling the AIDS pandemic around the world. A vision of ours is to see each person who calls CitH home, to serve the world by volunteering for a overseas missions experience.
Movement Mindset
We are flexible in our methodology to meet people where they are at with out compromising the message of the gospel. Our motivation in trying new ways is not meant to offend, or to be controversial, but to reach people with God’s Love. We value the mission of seeing Gods Kingdom grow – over maintenance, the task instead of being stuck because of a tradition.
Spiritual Friendship
People are meant to be in community with the Triune God and with others. Community takes effort and it is not something that can be given to us without effort on our part. It is something to participate in, something to fight for. This is why we gather together during the week in different ways, Sunday mornings, smaller groups mid week, pre-teen, youth, people connecting in any way and in all ways. People are more important than Programs – always.
Next Generation, Every Generation
Our children and youth are a priority. We make effort to include kids and youth in what we do. We believe in ministries to families with two, and one parent(s), as well in age appropriate settings. We understand that parents carry the primary responsibility for training their children spiritually and we seek to support them in that role.
